2008 National Dutch Rabbit ShowMichigan Dutch Shine at National Dutch ShowMichigan Dutch Rabbit Club members were among some of the top exhibitors at the recent National Dutch Show held in Bloomington, Illinois. It was an exciting weekend to see the Michigan Dutch shine in this highly competitive show. Each of the Michigan youth exhibitors had a rabbit on the table for the grand finale when the variety winners and BOB and BOS were selected. Seven of the 24 rabbits on the table were from Michigan! Michelle Meijer had the first place chocolate junior doe. Madison and Mackenzie Everett had the first place steel junior doe and a nice blue doe that was first place senior and best blue senior. Alexandra Reau had the first place black senior buck and first place black senior doe who was also named best black senior. She also exhibited the first place blue senior buck. Her first place gray senior buck went on to be best opposite variety. In the display competition, Michigan youth won three out of the six varieties. Alexandra Reau won best black and gray displays and Madison and Mackenzie Everett won best blue display. Alexandra Reau was the top exhibitor taking home the best overall display honor. The Michigan youth also excelled in a large fur class of over 50 entries. Five of the top ten fur entries were Michigan Dutch with Alexandra Reau’s blue doe taking first place followed by Everett’s blue doe. The open competition featured a large number of Dutch from across the country and once again Michigan took one of the top honors. Charles Sayles first place blue senior doe went on to be best blue senior and best of variety. What a thrill for Charles! He also had a second place blue junior doe and Herb Six had a second place with his sharp steel junior buck. Herb Six and Kristy Hume also placed in the top five in a large fur class of over 50 entries. Both Michigan open and youth rabbits were in demand from buyers across the country to add to their breeding programs. Kristy Hume’s entry in the seller’s class topped the auction going for $210.
